Shield windows saved my life says arson
attack victim
Mrs Ridley of Stanley, County Durham says
her Shield windows saved her life. The alleged arson attack
took place when a pile of rubbish was set alight between Mrs
Ridley and her neighbour’s front doors. The fire spread
rapidly.
Image Windows, who installed the windows,
were called to the scene. Dennis Davison, Image Windows’
Managing Director, arrived when the frames were still hot from
the fire. He explains: “We installed Mrs Ridley’s windows two
years ago and when she called we went straight round not
knowing what to expect. But the windows were barely touched
inside, and the smoke had not come through into the house.
The police, fire service and insurance
company were amazed how well Mrs Ridley’s windows had stood up
to the intense heat.
“Mrs Ridley said she wouldn’t have her
windows replaced by any other company, and she wouldn’t accept
any other quotes. She told me that her windows saved her life,
and she wasn’t going to settle for anything less,” adds
Dennis.
“We have bent over backwards to make it as
easy as possible for Mrs Ridley. The new windows will be
replaced on Tuesday – we were trying to install them before
the bank holiday weekend. We have already replaced all the
outside plumbing and roofline.
“The situation could have been a lot worse
according to the police. The fire was dangerously close to a
gas main and they were minutes away from evacuating the whole
street.
“You don’t really expect to see damage
like this first hand. I know all the products are tested to a
certain level of fire resistance, but it doesn’t really mean
anything until you see it for yourself. I can’t believe how
well the Shield system held up under the heat, but I’m very
glad it did.”
